Hypoparathyroidism เป็นโรคที่พบได้น้อย แต่อาการเกี่ยวของกับหลายอวัยวะ (skeleton, kidneys, skin, and gastrointestinal, ocular, and dental systems) พบมากในรายที่ผ่าตัดบริเวณคอ (ภาวะแทรกซ้อนจากการผ่าตัดต่อมไทรอยด์) เหตุอื่นเช่น  กรรมพันธ์ ออโตอิมมูน หรือ idiopathic disorder เป็นต้น

ผลการตรวจทางห้องปฏิบัติการ ได้แก่ Hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and low or undetectable PTH levels อาจพบมี hypercalciuria ได้

อาการของแคลเซียมในเลือดต่ำ จากฮอร์โมนพาราไทรอยด์ต่ำ neuromuscular and cardiovascular systems พบได้ตั้งแต่ แบบเป็นเร็วฉุกเฉิน life threatening manifestations (eg, tetany, seizures, arrhythmias) จนถึงอาการระยะยาวเรื้อรัง long-term complications (eg, cerebral, vascular, renal or other ectopic calcifications)
